It's Opening Night for the Jazzy New Off-Broadway Musical Play It Cool

The new off-Broadway musical Play It Cool will celebrate its opening night on September 14 at the Acorn Theatre on Theatre Row. Featuring a jazzy score and a talented cast of five (Sally Mayes, Chris Hoch, Michael F. McGuirk, Robyn Hurder and Michael Buchanan), the show is set at an underground gay nightclub in the early 1950s Hollywood.

As nightclub owner Mary (Mayes) put it, "You come in here and you know who you are." Play It Cool combines a great jazz singing (backed by a swinging trio) and a script that presents the reality of a dark era in gay life in America.
